Welcome to Bay Area Vipassana

Vipassana meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka

The Bay Area Vipassana Trust, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, organizes ten-day Vipassana meditation courses and meditation sittings as taught by S. N. Goenka throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. To learn more about this tradition and courses offered throughout California, please visit our About Vipassana page.

Currently in the San Francisco Bay Area, there is no residential Vipassana meditation retreat center in the tradition of S.N. Goenka. The Board of Trustees has formed a search committee to begin the process of finding and establishing a residential retreat center with the hope of offering regular 10-day courses in the Bay Area.

Occidental Course

We organize a large 10-day meditation course at the end of December. This course takes place at a rented facility near Occidental, 1.5 hours north of San Francisco.

Please visit the Occidental course homepage to read more and Northern CA non-center Course Schedule to apply to sit or serve.

Events & Sittings

Group sittings, one day courses, special events and board (trust) meetings take place in the bay area regularly. They are open to all old students.

Children's Courses

Children and teens ages 8-17 are served through one-day and two-day courses held throughout California. Their parents do not have to be Vipassana meditators.

Establishing a Vipassana Center in the Bay Area

In an effort to make more 10-day courses available, the Bay Area Vipassana Trust has been looking for suitable properties to establish a fourth center in California, near the Bay Area. The Trust has recently begun searching for a site to develop a center for 150 people (120 students and 30 servers and staff). Learn more about the need for a new center and the current status.
